What is DLS?

The U.S. Army Distributed Learning System (DLS) acquires, deploys and maintains a worldwide learning infrastructure that innovatively combines hardware, software and telecommunications resources with training facilities and course content to deliver a cohesive, Web-based solution.

DLS is part of the U.S. Army >>Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS). PEO EIS is responsible for project management of DoD and Army business and combat service support systems, as well as related Army communication and computer infrastructure.

Increased Training Benefits for Soliders and Units

  • Efficiency
Provides the Army the ability to leverage technology to increase training efficiency and reduce costs. Significantly reduces the travel costs inherent in resident training, by bringing the training to the Soldier, rather than the Soldier to the training.
  • Flexibility
Increases the flexibility in scheduling training, since a significant portion of DL courses can be provided anywhere at anytime.
  • More Time at Home, Less Time Away from the Unit
Since Soldiers are able to take courses in their local DTF, at home, or in the office, this improves quality of life, morale, increases the time available for duty and improves unit readiness.
  • Standardized Training
Courses are developed and often delivered by proponent school instructors, ensuring that the quality of training is standard across the Army, including Active, National Guard, and Reserve components.

Army e-Learning Program Wins 2009 Innovations in Learning Award for Public Sector Excellence in Learning

This award recognizes DLS for developing and implementing a best in class integrated learning program that delivers demonstrated results, and designates our program as "exceptional in concept and execution."
Special recognition goes to our Deputy PM, Stan Davis. Not only does he serve as my Deputy, but Stan is also the Army e-Learning Project Officer. It's through his work with the e-Learning program that we have the honor of accepting this award.
